Where does my data live — and what if I lose my phone?
On your device, private to you — no account and no Dormer server. Your records are included in your iPhone's normal encrypted backup, so setting up a new phone restores them. (iCloud sync across your devices is on the way for Dormer+.)
How is this different from a spreadsheet or the Notes app?
Capture, for one — you scan a nameplate instead of typing a serial number. And structure: warranties with expiry reminders, recall matching against your exact models, a room-by-room insurance inventory, paint chips by room, replacement forecasts. A note can't remind you a filter is due or flag a recall on your dishwasher.
Do I need an account?
No. No sign-up, no email, no password — open the app and start. It works fully offline.
Does the scanning really work?
It uses Apple's on-device text recognition to read model and serial numbers off a nameplate, and the color off a paint can. It's fast and private, and you can tweak anything it misreads before saving.
Why isn't it free?
The core record, capture, and recall safety alerts are free, forever. Dormer+ ($24.99/year or $69.99 once, with a 14-day free trial) funds ongoing development and unlocks reminders, exports, the insurance inventory, cost basis, forecasting, and multiple homes — one purchase covers your whole household.
